By the end of this module, you will:
know and apply learning experience design frameworks to make well-designed materials and lessons
identify own strengths and growth areas as teacher-designers
value the importance of empathizing with students when designing and implementing lessons
By the end of this module, you will have done the following:
Written an entry in your Study Notebook
Filled out the M-I-S worksheet
Written a letter to a future teacher
Answered the Self-Check
The MISMO framework invites us to look at our lessons and learning plans as rich learning experiences that we can design and redesign for our students. For this activity, look back on one of your Weekly Home Learning Plans. Now that you know about MISMO, reflect on the following questions:
Have I been using elements of the MISMO framework without knowing? Which ones and why?
Is there anything I would want to improve in my Home Learning Plan?
Record these insights in your Study Notebook
In case you missed our live webinar, you can go back to the NEAP or DepEd Facebook page to review. In this activity, we’ll try to fill out the worksheet more intentionally by starting with the first three elements: Mindset, Intended Outcomes, and Student Context. As you answer each part of the worksheet below, think about the following prompts:
This part of the worksheet is an invitation to dive deep into who you are as an educator. What are your beliefs? How do you view teaching and learning? What are your strengths and talents as a teacher? An understanding of these can help us determine the kind of experiences that we can design for our learners.
How can you articulate the desired learning outcomes in simple, measurable terms? One of the ways you can do this is to imagine that you’ll be showing these outcomes to your learners; Would they be able to understand these outcomes? When learners know what they’re supposed to be aiming for, they’re more able to manage their own learning. Use the MELCs from LDM2 Course Module 2 as starting points.
This part of the worksheet is where we exercise empathy for our learners. Put yourself in their shoes and try to imagine what their learning environment might look like. Use the HOME framework (Habits, Obstacles, Motivations, Environment). When we know who our learners are, we can design learning experiences that are suited to their needs.
How was the last activity? As teachers, we’re given the opportunity to help shape our learners but we’re also able to learn with our fellow teachers by sharing what we know and helping them get ready for their journey in education. In this activity, we invite you to:
Regroup with your LAC group and talk about your experience answering the M-I-S worksheets. You can use the following prompts for discussion:
What did I learn about myself after doing the previous activity?
What was difficult for me? What was easy?
Write a letter to a future teacher. How would you introduce MISMO to them? You can do this individually or as a LAC group.
This survey is designed to help us gain a better understanding of your learning throughout the program. Don’t forget to answer this after accomplishing the previous tasks to get your certificate for this Module!
